Many, if not most, believe the ego is bad.
In fact, we need an ego.
Because we live in a world surrounded by articles and posts and stories about who we should be and how we should live.
I’m twenty-nine years old. Yes. A millennial. I don’t have my degree yet, I work at a restaurant, and make less money than most of my friends and family.
I feel the judgment. I’m not delusional or self-projecting.
What’s taking him so long? Ha. I’m better because I figured my life out before him and I own my own house.
I’m courageous. I’ve attempted and failed many times but have been rebuilt with more strength and self-awareness after each fall.
Almost every day I reject my friends offering of their fries or burger or chicken wings.
You’re boring. Live a little.
I’m a health freak. I only eat organic foods. And I will live a little; a little longer than you because of the choices I make.
You’re another self-help guru who wants to make money online.
Yes. I want to make a living slinging words around the internet. But most importantly, I’m a writer.
We need an ego, an identity, an I. We can create it for ourselves or let others do it.
Choose the former.
