Here’s Why You Can’t Find Your Purpose

It will find you

You can’t find your purpose because you’re conceptualizing it incorrectly.

I have 4 AA (Associates of Arts) degrees. Not on purpose — no pun.

I assumed I wanted to train athletes because I enjoyed training.

Wrong.

I assumed I would enjoy business management because my grandpa owns a multimillion-dollar business.

Wrong.

I assumed I would enjoy producing music because I love Hip-Hop and R&B.

Wrong. So incredibly wrong.

I’m getting my Master’s in psychology to become a Marriage and Family Therapist, and I write in my free time because I want to help people.

Bingo.

The “I” Obstacle

I chased purpose and meaning because I wanted to feel good or better than I did. I assumed if I found a career I enjoyed, I would feel energized, motivated, content, and make more money.

I repeated “I” 7 times in the previous paragraph. But purpose isn’t self-centered or “I” inspired.

Helping, sharing, giving, serving are the characteristics of purpose. You can’t “help” without the presence of another. And you can’t make others feel better if you feel like crap.

Helping, sharing, and generosity are positive energies and states of consciousness. You have to align to these energies, and they will manifest themselves with action.

I wanted to make music to get — to get love, attention, and validation because I felt broken and unrecognized.

I write because I want to give — to give healing perspective and energies, to give positive emotions and experiences because I feel “high”, whole, and warm.

Authenticity is Key

I can’t help but bob my head when Hip-Hop music is playing. I can’t help but sing and sway my body when I hear an R&B love ballad. I “tune” out and literally don’t hear country or rock music.

I rather lift weights than run or do yoga. I rather read a book than listen to a podcast or watch a video.

We all have innate interests and preferences that consciously or unconsciously express themselves. Your purpose is no exception.

Playing basketball, reading, and watching reality tv are my purest forms of joy. They express themselves unconsciously as if they can’t help but be experienced.

Therapy, coaching, and writing are authentic expressions of my highest conscious self. Trauma, insecurity, and misinformation buried these acts of service.

I needed a destination to break through the dirt of negativity and self-centeredness to find my purpose. I needed to consciously choose generosity and service so my purpose would express itself.

Your Purpose Will Choose You

Fear. Anxiety. Anger. Self-hatred.

What images do you experience when you read these words? What actions or behaviors are performed in these images? What sensations do you feel in your body?

Conversely, what’s your experience when you read these words: Share. Give. Help. Serve.

The first batch of words are low vibrational or consciousness energies. They manifest in your thoughts and actions. In a fearful state, we believe the world is a scary place, so we run and hide.

The second batch of words are high vibrational or consciousness energies. In a service state, we believe and desire to help others, so we become doctors, nutritionists, physical therapists, yoga instructors, and school teachers.

“Artists” — poets, musicians, and painters serve others in that their creations can influence consciousness. A song can bring awareness to emotions and actions. Awareness is the first step in self-improvement. Awareness of our oneness — realizing we all have similar experiences -liberates separation and evaporates self-centeredness.

Repeat the high consciousness words often throughout your day — while you’re driving to work, watching tv, or at the gym. Set time aside in the morning or evening and meditate on these words. Let the words raise your consciousness, thus influencing your thoughts, feelings, visions, and actions.

Finding your purpose isn’t to benefit you. It’s to help and serve others. But we can’t spread positivity and raise the consciousness of others if we’re in a low state ourselves. Align to higher energies, and your purpose will express itself.
